Hope for the Children of Hope
Seventy Randy Vick Reprinted from The Beacon, April 2009
Many of us came to know the children of Future Hope Orphanage in Liberia several years ago. We found sixty children who had suffered the loss of almost everything in their young lives due to war, disease and poverty. Most of you know the story of our dear Sis Etta who had answered God’s call and through great personal sacrifice provided love and support as the only Mother these children know.
The saints have also answered the call and have opened up a whole new world for these kids. They can’t really understand what or even where America is, but they know there are people they’ve never seen who love them and care about them. They’ve seen the examples of that love in the toys, books and clothes you’ve sent through the barrel and container projects. They see it in the food they eat, now enjoying two meals a day, instead of one, even if they can’t see all of the nutrition they’re getting now, that they weren’t getting before. They can see it in the new dormitory which has changed their living conditions completely and in the new school, the new kitchen and the electric lights. The temporal blessings they have received have all come from your hearts to their hearts.
Now we’re asking you to commit something to these children you may never have thought of before. We’re asking you to commit to a personal relationship with one of these beautiful kids. We’re asking you, even in these tough economic times to truly become a part of the life of one of our children of Hope Restoration Youth Home, formerly known as Future Hope Orphanage. For $50.00 a month you can become a parent or a family to one or more of these kids. You’ll not only be guaranteeing that we can continue to improve their every day life situation, but you’ll have the opportunity to get to know them personally and allow them to get to know you personally. This is the best way for us to be sure we can continue to meet the physical needs of the children, while you can help meet their emotional and spiritual needs. You can establish a relationship that will be a blessing to you and them for years to come.
We invite you to visit our website where you can see where the kids live, where they play and where they go to school. Best of all you’ll see the kids themselves. If you visit the sponsorship page at the website you’ll see individual pictures of each child and which children have sponsors and those that still need to be sponsored. There is a message form on the sponsorship page and you can write to us and ask questions, or you can write and tell us which child you would like to sponsor. If you tell us you want to sponsor a child, you’ll receive an email from us with details about establishing this wonderful new relationship.
We ask that you look into their faces and pray to our Heavenly Father and ask what He would have you do for His precious little ones.

DI People Make a Difference Professionally and Personally Randy Vick, Chief of Security
DI colleagues are serving all over the world, making a difference in both professional and personal endeavors. Though difficult to measure, our personal contributions may equal our professional efforts. In 2004, I went to Liberia as a CIVPOL officer with DI and established a relationship with the Future Hope Orphanage, home to 59 children. These children changed my life. After a year and a half, I went home, unprepared for how difficult my separation from these kids would be. Eleven months later I returned to Liberia with DI's SSR program. With the support of family, friends and DI colleagues, we have been able to make significant improvements for these children, including; A new well, electric wiring and a new generator, providing electricity for the first time in their lives. Food for the children, so they now have two meals per day instead of one. A steady supply of new clothes, school supplies and toys. Payroll for school teachers and caretakers. A new dormitory, nearly completed, to house 40 girls; the old dormitory will be renovated for 19 boys. The knowledge that thousands of people love and care for them.
DI's Liberia SSR program donated desks for the orphanage's school. Together with outside sources, we have raised $94,000.00 which will provide nutritionally complete meals for the children at Future Hope as well as hundreds of children at other orphanages and schools for the next two years.
